Un-fucking-believable.
I can't believe the luck I'm having with technology here in Holland. When I was living in Sweden I can only remember one thing breaking for me, a black 2 GB Jens of Sweden MP3-player, bought just before they went bankrupt due to the problems with that exact same player. Apparently they received a very bad batch of players from Korea.
Here in Holland have, for example, my HDTV, my iPod, my Xbox360, numerous in-ear head phones, normal head phones, a video card all been broken and in most cases repaired.
Today should have been a good day. Wednesday, two days til the weekend, and not just any weekend, and the salary came today too.
Due to me troubleshooting lots of customers computers where the result was just what you knew from the start, the HDD was broken, i've been meaning to get some kind of backup system for at least my music. Now I haven't had the money for it until today so after work I went to Mediamarkt to buy a hdd-cabinett for my 120 gb IDE-drive from my old computer.
Biked home from there, talked a bit to one of my neighbours and it'd been a pretty good day at work too so didn't have anything to complain about. Walked in to my apartment, put down my bag and turned on the computer as usual. But it weren't a usual day for my computer. No no.
The computer just made 4 clicks, then was silent for a while, then 4 clicks more.
The POST-process did not recognize any drives. I was thinking that what the fuck, have they been stolen!?
Went into the system setup and checked, no disks.
Shut off the computer and looked inside, the disks were still there. Turned it on again and heard the click noise coming from one of the disks. Shut it off and reseated the cables. Nogo. Reset Bios. Nogo.
Swapped cables but still nuttin. Took out the cables from one of the disks, still the same. Tried with the other and the clicking stopped.
By now I'm kinda sweating here because the only reason why none of the disks were recognized and one of them starts, is that the primary disk with OS's didn't function properly. And boy was I right. No boot on the computer because the functioning disk didnt have anything to boot from.
Booted into my Ubuntu 7.04 live cd and double checked what was on the non-functioning disk, because I wasn't totally sure in that state.
Movies, tv-shows, pictures and some documents. But no music.
No fucking music.
I'd been so insanely stupid to puy the most fucking important thing I have on the disk on the same disk as Linux, WinXp and WinVista.
And I call customers stupid. What a fucking moron I am.
But the main thing is, I buy a damn backup system and the same day I do that, what I want to backup, breaks.
Yippi-ka-yay motherfucker.
