ITIL
ITIL.
Short, but yet very scary word.
Had a first class on what ITIL means today at work. ITIL is perhaps a good idea, but only if you're Dell, HP or another mega-size IT company.
It is probably not such a good idea if you're still a pretty small company where the mentality of almost everyone working there is very far from something that could work together with ITIL.
There are some good things about ITIL that we could implement, unfortunately it seems like the 'ITIL guru' that held the class sees ITIL as an Opes Dei member sees the bible, it's all or nothing, nothing else.

Apparently the kind of ITIL Microsoft are using is called MOF. Microsoft operational framework.
Mof is also a curse word for a German person in Dutch :) Somehow that seems pretty logical.

Just ordered a Popcorn Hour A-110. An amazing little device that can play right about any kind of media file, including matroska contained 1080p HD video with TrueHD sound for example. When it comes in a month or so I'll move the htpc into my room in order to get a workstation again, it's quite annoying to edit photos on a small 10" screen.
I decided to buy it directly from the makers rather than going through the reseller here in NL. The difference was about 100 euros, shipping costs counted in. It costs 250 euros excl shipping here in NL, and 250 dollars from the makers, including shipping...

Am I the only one getting serious Lost-vibes about The Pirate Bay's hosting location? The guys owning the place claims that it is an own country. The bunker was NATO-territory during it's active days and apparently that agreement was never cancelled. Thus, you have the Republic CyberBunker now.
It's also said that no one in the neighbourhood knew there was a bunker there, until a fire in the swimming pool room went out of control and they had to call for international help, i.e. the Dutch fire brigade. The fire was caused by a chinese-triad led XTC factory, or whatever those things are called.
I can't decide whether that bunker is scary, unbelievably cool or perhaps both...

I had ITIL at my school i think 8 years ago. It sounds great then but after my traineeships i think that it is only for big companies (as you said). But, i think that for little companies there a good thing in it. But not the total style!

Small companies just doesnt have the resources needed to implement it. And most companies wouldn’t want to since a complete ITIL complient work environment would be in direct conflict to the freedom needed in order to be innovative and flexible. But when a company needs to save money while believing they’re bigger than they are…
