Beat-less

I am not like most other rock fans. Not at all actually. I don't get what the deal is with The Beatles. Their music just doesnt do anything to me, it goes in one ear and out the other. Not even supposedly beautiful songs like Yesterday manages to cause much excitement at all for me. Some of my friends say that I don't understand anything about it and that I haven't given them enough of a chance to like them.

I've spent the past couple of hours going through the new remastered stereo versions of the Beatles discography and it hasn't changed one bit. It's still on a completely different wave length than the one I'm running on myself. I found myself sitting here tonight wanting to like at least a few songs, trying to sing along or just tap along with the foot. But that was all brain, no heart. My heart just beats away as normal, not doing anything extraordinary. The exceptions that proves the rule are a few songs that in my opinion sounds nothing like anything else The Beatles released. The first one is Back in the U.S.S.R. which almost could have been released by MC5, Come Together which sounds more like Pink Floyd and then the third one is Here Comes The Sun which I for years thought were an Animals or Monkeys song. I might be biased and might try to find a reason why I like just those songs, but I am of the opinion that those songs are a bit distant from the typical Beatles sound. Those songs have a little "longer" tones while most other Beatles songs are very short tones. In a way there's no echo, each strum on the guitar just quickly dies out. In these three songs, there is more of an echo, a more natural and nicer sound that you can feel in your chest.

That's what I get when I try really hard to find a reason as to why I don't find The Beatles any interesting.

Sure, I can appreciate the Fab Four for being one of the most influential bands ever. On the other hand bands like The Sparks, The Kinks and MC5 are probably not that far away from The Beatles in that aspect either, not to mention Dylan, Hendrix and Elvis. I would never go around saying that The Beatles sucks though, which would be very disrespectful to the music world and all rock musicians today.

To me personally however, The Beatles are more like the Beat-less.

  1. You know what i think about this. But as you see, aslong as you dont go around and say they suck. All music has so much so thank Paul, Ringo, John and George for. And not forget George Martin. The producer genius.

What i dont understand with you my friend is that you dislike both Beatles and Pink Floyd. Grrrr crazy!

    :)

  2. Hehe yeah. But I think that the Beatles contribution is very exaggurated, at least if we’re speaking about influences for other artists. They are one of the biggest influences yes, but I don’t think that The Kinks are soooo much less of an influence than Beatles, music-style wise.

What Beatles did however, is to get a lot of people to grab a guitar and start a band. But so did The Clash and Sex Pistols.

I think Elvis Presley are the biggest in that area though!
