Hold on Magnolia to that great highway moon…

25Jul/070

Un-fucking-believable update.

Phew. A big fucking phew.

I've managed to start the faulty disk!

Fortunately I had thought that if anything happened to my Linux partitions I needed to be able to temporarily install it on another partition so I didn't need the Live CD to troubleshoot it if it didn't boot.

I got use for it for another purpose today obviously and before I first booted into the new Ubuntu partition I connected both HDD's again.

However, no matter how you connect the cables the computer didn't recognize either of the disks during POST when they both were connected. I took out the S-ATA cable on the faulty disk and it booted Ubuntu as it should.

I figured that what the hell, I can afford to be a little risky with the disk as it doesn't work anyway, so I put in the S-ATA cable when I had ubuntu running. I didn't even have time to look up on the monitor again before new file explorer windows for every partition on the disk had opened on my computer. The disk was at least accessible.

So now I'm backup up my music and all other important data. I figure it's possible that the disk starts to work again after this, I've seen similar things happen at work. I'm not holding any thumbs though. Either way, I'm gonna go to Paradigit and have the disk replaced.

At least I'll be able to sleep tonight and I had only drunk two glasses of whiskey before I got it "working" again!
